How to Install Door Stops on Frameless Shower Doors: A DIY Guide for Atlanta, GA, Area Homeowners

Frameless Shower Doors DIY Door StopsFrameless shower doors and enclosures can add an elegant, open look to a bathroom in your Atlanta, Georgia, area home. However, the very feature that makes them so appealing, their lack of a framing structure, is what makes them so fragile. With a quick DIY project, though, you can install a stop that will protect the door and walls of your frameless glass shower while also ensuring the safety of a bather.

Before you begin your Atlanta, GA, area home improvement project, make sure you have all the necessary materials. You will need isopropyl alcohol, a clean, lint-free cloth, silicone caulk (preferably in a squeeze tube), and a Phillips head screwdriver. Additionally, you will want to create a clear, open workspace around your frameless shower doors, with all project materials within arm’s reach.

Once you are prepared, follow these simple, easy steps and you will be able to safely install door stops to virtually any and all models of frameless shower doors:

  • Dampen a clean, lint-free cloth with isopropyl alcohol
  • Open the frameless shower door; then, using the damp cloth, clean both sides of the glass where you will be installing the stop – be careful not to touch the glass with your hands
  • Squeeze a small amount of silicone caulk into the door stop opening
  • Align the opening of the door stop with the cleaned edge of the glass, then firmly push the stop into the desired location until it is securely anchored in place
  • Tighten the provided bolt head(s) using a Phillips head screwdriver to lock the door stop into position
  • Install any remaining door stop(s) by repeating the above steps
  • Allow the caulk to cure for 24 hours before using the shower
